Ambassadors of Hope Scholarship Fund
The mission of the Ambassadors of Hope is to provide underprivileged young adults with opportunities to expand their experiences and develop educationally, socially, and emotionally.
The Ambassadors of Hope Scholarship Fund is a new program of UrbanPromise intended to provide mentoring opportunities and financial assistance to college and trade school-bound students from impoverished communities such as Southeast Washington, DC and Camden, New Jersey. UrbanPromise launched the Ambassadors of Hope Initiative with a fundraiser held in Washington, DC on June 7, 2011. Over $50,000 was raised in donations and sponsorships that assisted fifteen UrbanPromise youth in attending college this year. Building on this remarkable success, the Ambassadors of Hope will host two annual events and would like to invite you to become part of it: The Ambassadors of Hope: Back to School Rocks and The Ambassadors of Hope Scholarship Benefit.
UrbanPromise has diverse impact, working with over 500 youth a year in Camden, creating job/leadership opportunities through summer camps and after school programs in impoverished communities. It has been replicated in Canada, Malawi, Honduras, Miami, Trenton, and Wilmington by indigenous leadership from those communities.
Current Washington, DC resident and business owner, Arlene Wube, is an UrbanPromise Board Member who grew up in this program in Camden, NJ. She can attest to its positive impact on the community, which is why she launched "The Ambassadors of Hope" campaign, to provide the UrbanPromise youth with an opportunity to realize their potential through education and enrichment activities. When she was invited to join the UrbanPromise Board of Directors in September of 2010, she made it her mission to support and further develop opportunities for teens to finish school and pursue their dreams.
Through the program we are looking to create a network of leaders to be a voice in the fight against poverty and lead the youth in impoverished communities toward a future of hope and promise through education.
