Why UrbanPromise? I wanted to do something meaningful with my life and I knew that UrbanPromise ran an amazing after-school program so I decided to spend a year here. I enjoy living in community, working with kids, and the east coast so there really wasn't a better option. :D

Favorite part of working at UrbanPromise: Playing games with the kids. I still love a crazy, competitive game of dodgeball or curbball. Still being a kid at heart, I can rarely refuse to play almost any time of activity with kids, interns, or even staff.

Future plans: Well, I'll be here until the end of May. After that is unknown. Maybe a summer here at Urban? Maybe travel to see some friends? Not sure...but that is too far away to think about anyway.

Random fact: 3:00 am on a Sunday my junior year in college I was asleep until I here a loud boom and my room sort of shook. I immediately woke up as did my 2 roommates. One of them thought it was lightning. The other thought it was thunder. We proceeded to go outside to see what happened and there were lights shining at the outside wall of my room. Low and behold it wasn't lightning or thunder, but an Avalanche hit my room. A Chevy Avalanche that is. Needless to say, that morning I went to two church services.

Also, I can juggle.

It's Over!?!?
May 26, 2011

Coming into this internship I was scared and asked my friends opinions on my decision. One good friend of mine advised it but also said I need to take caution. I was just beginning my spiritual walk with God, my friend told me it might be like going from crawling to running. I would absolutely agree, this experience will never be suitable to describe in words. It will be hard for me to explain all of the impact because it was my experience. But let me reassure you that it was a cornerstone in my faith walk. All your support was incredible, my heart was blessed by it. Eventhough you didn't see the results you blessed 20 lives and your reward is in heaven.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FRIENDS!!
November 30, 2010

November is definitely a fun time of year because the seasons are changing and the holidays are just on the horizon. These past few weeks have been pretty busy with trips, camp, and other things that spontaneously end up on the schedule. So it’s nice to stop and take a few minutes to write to you.

Most of the time it’s easy to take blessings for granted, especially when you are busy all the time. I would challenge you guys to stop for a minute and think of all the little blessing that go on throughout your day unnoticed, and be thankful.  I know that sounds cliché and little bit corny but I believe it’s necessary to humble yourself and be a follower of Christ. This past summer my friend Marshall and I challenged ourselves and asked “why are we Christians?” It’s a question I think we all need to ask ourselves, what makes us Christians?

One of the most important things that stuck out to me was the idea of contentment. I look over Jesus sometime on my pursuit of faith, I know that sounds silly but it s true. We serve a God that doesn’t care what we look like or what we’ve done. We can be content in any and all circumstances because of the love God has for us. The beauty of following Jesus is that we don’t have to live up to the “standards” of this world because there empty. Through faith God will provide. “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment” (1 Timothy 6:21)

Since my previous update camp has been great. We visited Messiah College to broaden the horizons of these kids, and after that we went straight to Hershey Park. It was a long day but the kids had a really good time and I had the opportunity to bond a little more with them. Aside from all of our trips camp has been running pretty smoothly, Boston, Christine, Heather and I are growing our relationships and are working well together. I am still trying to find my strength so that I can contribute more, but it is a work in progress. Recently Boston changed our curriculum so that we will have a more organized option time. Instead of our usual options time, which was the kids got to pick whether they wanted to staying inside and do that activity of go outside and play, now the kids are in a group that switches between stations every week. These stations are going to consist of a Math station, an Art station, and a Game station. This will start on Monday the 15th.
